Now in its fourth year, the Yeovil Literary Prize has attracted a very high standard of creative writing from writers across the globe. The Novel category in particular has been very popular and demonstrates the wealth of talent and commitment to the craft of fiction that exists in all corners of the world. This category, named The Betty Bolingbroke-Kent Award after a wonderful woman who loved the art of writing, provides a great opportunity for aspiring writers to demonstrate their abilities.
The standard and number of entries for the Short Story and Poetry competitions also continue to impress and reveal a wealth of talent. The Stage Play competition in 2006 was a great success, but funding limitations have restricted us. We hope to run this competition again in 2009.
The judging teams commissioned by the Yeovil Literary Prize consist of professional, experienced and successful writers whose comments reflect the worth and potential of the leading entries.
The Yeovil Literary Prize was originally established to stimulate interest in all literary pursuits and to fundraise for the Yeovil Community Arts Association. It is now able to provide real support to creative arts groups in the South Somerset area. The Yeovil Community Arts Association is a Registered Charity (no. 299372).
