Welcome to the Yeovil Literary Prize
Now in its seventh year, the Yeovil Literary Prize attracts outstanding entries from across the globe. This is the third year in which we have offered an option to enter online and it has encouraged a significant increase in entries. We look forward to even more this year. This years writing competition is now closed, next years will open up on January 1st 2011. Competition is keen but our entrants have, as always, responded to the challenge. The Novel category in particular has been very popular and demonstrates the wealth of talent and commitment to the craft of fiction that exists in all corners of the world. This category, named The Betty Bolingbroke-Kent Award after a wonderful woman who loved the art of writing, provides a great opportunity for aspiring writers to demonstrate their abilities. Not many writing competitions offer a category for Novelists, so this is a great opportunity and not to be missed.
The standard and number of entries for the Short Story and Poetry competitions also continue to impress and reveal a wealth of talent.
The judging teams commissioned by the Yeovil Literary Prize consist of professional, experienced and successful writers whose comments reflect the worth and potential of the leading entries. This year we are thrilled to have novelist Sharon Blackie, of the Two Ravens Press publishers, as our judge for the Novel category. Francine Lee is an internationally acclaimed short story writer who will judge that category, and we welcome David Evans, the highly respected South African poet now based in Merseyside, as our poetry judge.
The Yeovil Literary Prize was originally established to stimulate interest in all literary pursuits and to fundraise for the Yeovil Community Arts Association. It is now able to provide real support to creative arts groups in the South Somerset area. The Yeovil Community Arts Association is a Registered Charity (no. 299372).
